This program is supported in part by the Rockport Cultural Council, a local agency that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Newfoundlanders Ian Foster and Nancy Hynes are into the music of Christmas. If you have attended the Old Sloop Christmas Bazaar, you have heard their CD “A Week in December”. You may also have heard Ian in his 2016 appearance at Old Sloop Coffeehouse.
Ian and Nancy also do a Christmas tour every year. But…this year is different. We all know it, but we keep saying it. It’s different for everyone, and for touring musicians it means not being out on the road, performing and connecting with audiences.
So, this year, Ian and Nancy decided to do something different. A livestream…but they wanted it to look and sound REALLY good. Multiple cameras, mics…and then they thought “let’s pre-tape it!” They could pick a cool location and safely invite some of their friends to perform.
Pretty soon, they realized they were dreaming up a Digital Christmas Special: Christmas at Home with Ian and Nancy.
Shot in the taproom of Bannerman Brewery in downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland, this show is a celebration of what Ian and Nancy like to play at Christmas time, and some of the friends they’d spend it with when they get home for the holidays. Besides Ian and Nancy, you’ll hear very special guests Jerry Stamp, Melanie O’Brien, Brian Way, and the Laing kids!
Ian and Nancy are partnering with six different venues on six different nights to present a concert tailored to each audience. Even though it’s pre-taped, they’ll be there for the show – on webcam before and after, and in the live chat during. They still want to connect, hear how you’ve been doing, and celebrate with you.
Although the December 9 concert is a partnership with Old Sloop Coffeehouse in Rockport, Massachusetts, anyone can virtually ‘travel’ for the show. Do you have a friend you wish you could bring to a show who lives somewhere else? Buy a ticket and attend together.
We’re working hard to make something special during these
challenging times, and we hope you’ll join us!
